The time has come, even for Super Mega Virgin Stores around the US to say Ciao Ciao. Following the example of other chains, like Tower Records, the Virgin Mega Stores are going out of business, thanks recession.

No more strolling in Union Square and using their restroom after having listened to 200 records for free and having bought nothing at their store. ... why is that they are closing again?

The Virgin Mega Store in Union Square is an institution and as everything else in this big city it's going to disappear and be forgotten. This is NY.

Palm Springs Stories

Last year I was in Palm Springs shooting an editorial for Passport Magazine.

I had never been there before, all I knew about it was that it was not too far from LA but on a different planet. They were right. Time stands still over there, it was a bit bizarre at first but as soon as all my crew arrived there, things changed drastically.

The three models were cute and funny, my assistant, the make up guy and the stylist never ended teasing each other, we all became a family in a matter of hours.

We spent 3 days shooting from sunrise to sunset, splashing water on each other, visiting amazing villas (original from the 50s), shooting crazy videos that someday we will find on youtube and ending our 'family' trip with great images for my client.

I love how simple Annie keeps it in these Hollywood portraits. Not much photoshop, except in the Heath Ledger photo where she 'glued in' Christopher Nolan (Ledger's photo was taken a long time before).

The light, the poses, the set is very simple, I absolutely love that. Meryl Streep's face looks like her age, admirable. No plastic for Miss Liebovitz, thank you Annie.

how many people have to die because we fail to teach our kids what's important?

Last night, after a wonderful dinner with friends, my partner and I said goodbye to our friends, turned down an offer for a ride home and got on the bus.

We were sitting in the back, having a conversation about how different that part of Brooklyn was from 5 years ago, when anyone would have been frighten to walk around the neighborhood. 3 kids (in their teens) were sitting next to us, throwing chewing gum and candies at each other, being sloppy and loud like typical teenagers, talking about not having a bus pass because they are not attending school.

One of them, skinny, not articulate and obviously the boss of the gang starts complaining that my partner smells bad, ... he wanted to start something. We look at each other and without being too harsh I tell the kid that we are NOT the ones who smell. The other kid, big glasses, hooded large sweater, sitting across from us, gets up and sprays some deodorant on us while the 'boss' tells me that it is not me the one who smells but my 'friend'...

Is it a coincidence that I'm white and tall (and can obviously kick their ass) and my partner is Asian and short? When I tell them that they are insulting both of us by picking on one, they finally realize we are a couple. The tone switches fast and the two skinny boys start calling names, making jokes and using gay bashing words.

My partner and I felt confident that even if these stupid kids had knifes we would have been fine and although we matched their every word and told them to grow up, we did not want to start a big fight on the bus. Suddenly, the 3 boy, a big kid who's not attending school anymore, who had been listening and been watching the whole episode, steps in, sits next to my partner, says that he does not smell anything and tells his friends to stop being jerks. Nice to know that at least one of them knew better. It's sad to realize that this new generation is wasting their youth emulating behaviors they probably saw at home, where the easiest target is kicked in the nuts without a reason. My partner and I watched the whole thing unfold right in front of our very eyes and felt sad to see these kids being so unnecessarily stupid, but felt so lucky not to have crossed path with a 10 year older psycho-version of the same kids. We would have been dead.

My question is: Dear Christian Mom, why do we keep teaching your kids that hate is good ?

Donors pumped $83M to California gay marriage campaign

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — More than $83 million was donated to support or oppose the ballot initiative that abolished same-sex marriage in California, according to campaign filings released Monday.

The new filings cover the weeks immediately before and after the Nov. 4 election. They show that elected officials, businesses, churches and individuals poured more than $28 million into the campaigns during the contest's closing days.

The final tallies show that opponents of Proposition 8 raised $43.3 million in 2008 and had a little more than $730,000 left on hand at year's end. The measure's sponsors raised $39.9 million and had $983,000 left over.

Even before the late contributions were added, the race was the most expensive ballot measure on a social issue in the nation's history. Proposition 8 passed with 52 percent of the vote. Gay marriage backers have asked the California Supreme Court to overturn it.

If you have never watched a single second of HGTV, this man will have you change your DVR settings (Color Splash is the name of his show).

David Bromstad is not only hot (!!!) but a very talented artist and interior designer. For every room he designs, he creates a one of a kind Bromstad piece, a painting, an installation, you name it, that goes with it. I wouldn't mind owning a piece of David, ... one of his artworks, that is.

I stayed up overnight to watch the highly anticipated Nadal-Federer Australian Open final.

It was an exciting match (until Federer collapsed before our eyes in the deciding set), but ultimately reminded me that for all the talk about the "great rivalry" between the men, there actually is no rivalry. Sure, Federer beat Nadal on grass a couple times when Nadal wasn't NADAL yet. But essentially Federer cannot beat Nadal.

In her first performance since her family murder tragedy, Jennifer Hudson showed off her tremendous voice as she sang the National Anthem at Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa.

Dressed in a cropped jacket, skinny pants, a white top and gold jewelry, Hudson, 27, stepped onto a round dais at Raymond James Stadium for her pre-game performance.
